Hey friends 👋

I'm on the hunt for a full-time YouTube Producer based in Hong Kong to join my team. This role is crucial in managing and elevating our YouTube channel's content and strategy to help make videos that inspire & educate hundreds of millions of people, and involves working with me in-person 9am-5pm (ish) most days. If that sounds like your idea of fun, please read on :)

Hours: Full-Time

Location: Hong Kong - This is essential. I’m not looking for someone remote and I've moved to Hong Kong for at least the next year. I’m looking for someone I work with IRL pretty much everyday.

Salary: $500,000 HKD+ per year, negotiable depending on how good you are - This is one of the highest leverage roles in the business, and drives the entire business. I’m pretty much willing to pay whatever it takes to get the absolute best person for the role.

This job was posted on 9 Oct 2024 if you’re seeing this, it’s still open, so you’re welcome to apply 😊 I’ll take this posting down as soon as I’ve found the right person.

Your Role as YouTube Producer

Tintin, our current YouTube Producer, has been in the role for 2 years, and is keen to move on to setup his own business 🙂 For the record, this is something I very much encourage, as you’ll know if you watch anything on the channel. Hence why we’re hiring for this role.

Anyway, as our YouTube Producer, you'll be the driving force behind our channel's success. Here's what you'll do:

  1. 📅 Content Strategy: You’ll create and manage a 2-3 month content plan (with flexibility for up to 6 months). The goal is to balance planned videos with some room for spontaneity, so that I have both freedom to film what I want but also have space to take a break.
  2. 🎬 Video Production: You’ll oversee the entire production process, from ideation to publishing. This means generating ideas, finalising titles and thumbnails, writing and reviewing scripts, reviewing edits, manage YouTube studio and working with sponsors. I only want to be involved in ideation, a bit of script preparation, and filming. You’ll manage my random ideas and filter the best ones for quick action, work with our thumbnail designer, and manage the workload of our 3 full-time editors to make sure the videos come out :)
  3. 💡 Creative Input: You’ll proactively research and suggest ideas for both long-form and short-form videos. Present these ideas with research, titles, and thumbnail concepts, even for topics I haven't considered.
  4. 🔍 YouTube Expertise: You’ll be the expert on what drives clicks, engagement, and retention. You need to stay up-to-date with YouTube trends, algorithm changes, and best practices, keeping me informed about crucial updates.
  5. 📊 Analytics and Performance: You’ll understand our channel's analytics in depth and balance performance metrics with content I enjoy making. You’ll also appreciate the concept of slow productivity and optimising for long-term success, particularly in relation to brand which is one of the most valuable parts of this business.
  6. Quality Control: You’ll review and quality-check scripts, research, and edits from our team. I typically don’t review any videos before they get published, so you need to have an eye for details and make sure all content meets our high standards and aligns with my expectations.
  7. 🚀 Channel Management: You’ll manage the channel YT studio. This include scheduling content, writing descriptions, linking correctly to our products, adding end screens, and cards etc. The goal is to publish 1-2 long-form videos and 3-5 shorts per week.
  8. 🤝 Sponsorship Coordination: You’ll need to work with sponsors to post content a) when they want it posted and b) that they’re happy with. You won’t be involved in winning sponsorship contracts, just fulfilling on the agreements we made. This means writing sponsor scripts based on sponsorship briefs, communicating with brands strategically and nicely, and ensuring well-placed integration without disrupting our creative process. And ideally do all this without involving me too much in the process 👀
  9. 🤼 Team Collaboration: You’ll lead the YouTube team, working closely with editors, researchers and writers, thumbnail designers and me, to ensure smooth content production and a high performing YouTube team.
